It’s hard to believe that it was 1979 when Youth In Action began at the Okolona Church of Christ. For a number of years our youth attended YIAs at Jonesboro, AR and Tuscaloosa, AL. Finally, a decision was made to host a Youth In Action in Louisville so that youth in the area would have an opportunity to enjoy participating in an event that was too far away for many. The rest, as they say, is history.
Our theme for 2010 is:
Many things seek to consume us: our need for approval, our desire to fit in, our lust for pleasure - too many things to list.
The one person who has earned the right to consume us is Jesus, anyone or anything else that takes that place is but a cheap imitation. We are saved from being consumed by the grace of God through Jesus, yet if we reject that grace then we do face a fearful consuming fire in the rightful judgment of God. May His love consume us and may all we do reflect our being consumed by him.
God is a consuming fire may cause fear in some, yet the thought of our being consumed by the God who loves us should not cause fear.
Jesus gave himself for us and poured himself out for us. It seems that for us to be any less than consumed by him would be a shallow response.
